Love over Fear adı nereden geliyor?
Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Bora Ercan
Love over Fear telegram grubundan çeşitli okumalar, videolar, kaynaklar paylaşıyorum. Dilersen herkese açık. Eğer bu ay online buluşmalara katılmak istersen, doğrudan bu e-postaya yanıt vererek bana yazabilirsin. Görüşmek üzere!
After a long break, I am returning to Love over Fear Yoga gatherings this September. Distinct from in-person studio classes, the flow I developed specifically for the online space has organically evolved over time into an almost distinct methodology. After sharing this space every Sunday for three years, I let the practice lie fallow in recent years, opening it only for occasional month-long series. As autumn approaches, the desire to gather again became undeniable, and I did not want to postpone this calling.
Where does the name Love over Fear come from?
Years ago, while reading Erich Fromm’s To Have or to Be?, I excitedly took notes on its revolutionary insights. The book touches on how defining our identity through our possessions keeps us from ever truly arriving at the question, “Who am I?” While Eastern spiritual traditions and yoga have explored the state of being and developed practices around it throughout human history, Fromm offered a distinct bridge into Western thought as a psychoanalyst.
The book resonated so deeply that it naturally wove its way into my yoga classes. In our relationship with the body, rather than striving to “achieve,” trying to “possess” a posture, or pushing the body out of a fear of inadequacy, we explore softness and deep listening. In contrast to a social structure built on fear—demanding that we work harder, push more, achieve more—we explore letting go, slowing down, and softening. We shed these deeply ingrained patterns through the body, remembering that growth does not have to be fueled by competition and fear-driven pressure.
In these sessions, following a somatic flow that listens to the body without forcing it, we settle deeper into yin-oriented asanas. The readings I share from various texts open up new perspectives on different concepts while gently supporting turning inward. In shavasana (corpse pose), the fruition of the entire practice, we experience a complete surrender, feeling a clarity of mind within the body.
Some of the texts I have woven into our gatherings so far include:
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Godfrey Devereux
Living Beautifully with Uncertainty and Change, Pema Chödrön
The Buddha and His Teachings, İlhan Güngören
Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Bora Ercan
The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching, Thich Nhat Hanh
Waking the Tiger, Peter Levine
Throughout September, we will meet live online via Google Meet every Wednesday and Sunday (recordings will be provided for those unable to join live). This space is open to all levels—it is physically non-demanding, designed for anyone who wishes to cultivate depth, deep rest, and a gentle transition into autumn.
I also share readings, videos, and resources in the open Love over Fear Telegram group. If you would like to join the online sessions this month, feel free to reply directly to this email.
Looking forward to connecting!
